Senses engaged: Food preparation

Baking and cooking (making) engage all five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, enriching the experience of preparing and eating food.

Baking and cooking engage our senses on multiple levels—from the anticipation of flavors and aromas, to the visual appeal of textures and colors, the sounds of food sizzling or simmering, and the powerful memories evoked by past culinary experiences.

  • Which of your senses are engaged the most when you are in the kitchen?

  • Do you arrange your food prep in an orderly fashion?

  • Is there a method, or is there madness, or is there a little bit of both?
